Driving towards Diversity
It was an incredible honour to be a panellist at Charity Finance Group’s quarterly Member’s Meeting yesterday, sharing insights about The Social Investment Consultancy (TSIC)’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) maturity model and lessons learned from past DEI client projects. TSIC has been passionate about supporting organisations, including the UK charity sector, in becoming more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
Here are some key ideas I discussed during the panel:
🌈 DEI isn’t just about creating a positive work environment for employees; it’s also about how an organisation conducts its business and interacts with its users and customers. DEI is crucial for achieving impact and ensuring that the work of social impact organisations reaches those most in need and marginalised.
💭 DEI is an ongoing process of learning and unlearning. We must challenge our own biases and assumptions and create space for others. Leaders must be comfortable with vulnerability, openly sharing their reflections and learning, and being candid about their knowledge gaps. This fosters a learning culture within organisations and encourages open conversations.
💡 Don’t underestimate the knowledge and resources within your organisation. Your team are the expert in their work and understand your organisational culture and needs better than anyone else. Their lived experiences and feedback are invaluable in driving effective DEI changes. Sometimes, external support may be necessary to unleash internal talent and identify blind spots. That’s why TSIC is here to assist you in your DEI efforts.
